Campaign ‘95

Compiled By Jim Camden From Staf

Cheap shot of the month

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, in its zeal to unseat Idaho’s GOP Sen. Larry Craig next year, appears to have committed a sin of omission. It sent out an editorial cartoon it hopes newspapers in the region will reprint, which takes Craig to task for various votes and stands on national issues … The cartoon is a satire of the Monopoly board game, with squares devoted to issues the committee doesn’t like. For Park Place, it proclaims “No Fee! Republican Senators Park Free at National Airport in Washington D.C.” This conveniently ignores the fact that Democratic senators have the exact same privilege, and did nothing to change it when they held the majority in Congress … Well, the committee says the cartoon is free to reprint. So you get what you pay for.

Wanna hear about the charter?

This listing for a forum on the city-county charter is a bit too complicated to run in Catch the Candidates, so here goes: The League of Women Voters and KPBX radio will host a forum Wednesday with panelists Robert Herold, an Eastern Washington University government professor, and former freeholders Judi Williams and Sue Kaun … The forum is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Spokane City Council chambers, and you can watch it live. Or, you can catch it on Spokane City Cable Channel 5, either live or rebroadcast at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, or 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 5 … If you are beyond the reach of cable, you can listen to it on tape on KPBX, FM 91.1, at noon Thursday or 6 p.m. Nov. 6.

He’s a versatile guy

The Spokane Parks and Recreation Department is offering a pro and con session on the proposed charter at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the South Hill Senior Center, 2727 S. Mount Vernon … Ordinarily that would call for at least two speakers - one for, one against. This time however, both sides will be represented by former Spokane City Councilman and freeholder Bob Dellwo. … This could be the ultimate test of Dellwo’s fairness, since he is part of the pro-charter campaign.
