Kinder Nets Winner As Pirates Slip By Bearcats
Defender Matt Kinder scored the game-winning goal, on a June Kang pass, at the 71-minute mark as the Whitworth Pirates beat the host Willamette Bearcats 2-1 in a NCIC league match.
Reo Three Star scored the Pirates (6-4-0 NCIC, 8-6-1 over-all) other goal 10 minutes into the game. Aaron Trelstad had the Bearcats only goal.
Gonzaga University (2-7-2) exploded for four second-half goals at Martin Field to defeat Concordia University 4-0 in a non-conference men’s soccer match.
GU’s Octavio Dovalle scored the first of three Bulldogs goasl in a 7 minute span at 81:08 when he converted Shaun Flanigan’s pass back. Flanigan then scored at 87:50 and Simeon Eneumo at 88:45.
Women’s soccer
Tina Walsh and Kimberly Schelpf each scored two goals for Washington State as the Cougars routed visiting Gonzaga 7-0 in non-conference women’s soccer action.
The Cougars (3-10-1) used their highest goal total in 41 matches to halt their six-game losing streak. Gonzaga (2-13-0) was shut out for the tenth time this season.
Staci Lemley and Debbie Ragan scored in the second half, both assisted by Heather Wolfe, to spark the Community Colleges of Spokane to the 2-0 victory over Tacoma in an NWAACC league game.
CCS goalie Stephanie Conklin had 14 saves, including two diving stops in the first half to keep the Sasquatch in the game.
