Library District Meetings Planned
Proponents of a library district for Stevens County, buoyed by a meeting last month that drew 55 people, have scheduled two more meetings to measure public support.
The first will be tonight at 7 at the Greenwood Park Grange in Hunters. The second will be at the same time Tuesday in the Colville High School cafeteria.
A representative of the Washington State Library will be on hand to answer questions about benefits of a library district and the process of forming one.
The only libraries in the county now are the municipal libraries at Colville, Chewelah and Kettle Falls and club libraries at Loon Lake and Hunters. Non-residents must pay $10 a year to use the Kettle Falls library and $40 to use the Colville library.
Colville-area library district supporter Kat Wallace said a “large majority” of the 55 people who attended last month’s meeting at Loon Lake favored working for a countywide district.
For more information, call Wallace at 684-8070; Barbara Wiess, in Hunters, 722-3911; or Lorinda Travis, in Loon Lake, 233-8232.
