Bill Moore Challenging Brenda Lippert For Board Seat

Four years after Brenda Lippert beat Bill Moore for a seat on the Deer Park School Board, he is back to challenge her again.

Moore said he is running because he enjoyed the four years he had on the board, which included two years as board president. During his time away from the board he has stayed involved in school decisions by volunteering for the school bond committee. “Managing a concensus is hard,” said Moore, a mechanic for the Postal Service. “It’s a good challenge.”

Both Moore and Lippert say they would push for more instruction in computers and their application in the work world.

Moore also promises to increase vocational opportunites for students. Moore says Hank is a good mechanic after working in Deer Park’s alternative school vocational programs.

Lippert, a self-employed graphic artist, has a background in computerassisted design and sees familiarity with technology a requisite for students.

In Mead, all three positions are uncontested. The candidates, all incumbents, have been on the board at least eight years.

The district is currently taking applications for a seat being vacated by John Riherd.

In Orchard Prairie, the only contested race is between Dee Dee Hanson, a housewife, and Doug Barnett, a Mead High School teacher.

In Riverside, Sandra Ross, a Spokane Community College fitness instructor, and Elaine Cullen, a public relations officer, are vying for the director 4 position.

Cullen has a background in education, having served as president of a group which organizes partnerships between schools and businesses.

Ross would have the district change the suspension policy to force problem students to work at schools.

In the race for director 4, incumbent Larry Frowick is running against Cherry Tallant, a medical transcriptionist.

Frowick, a lab technician at Sacred Heart’s nuclear medicine department, would like to keep community values such as honesty and a work ethic taught in the schools.

Tallant is opposed to education restructuring because she feels the schools are doing a good job.
