Ashley Designs Beautify Bathrooms
Those wanting the Laura Ashley look can deck out bedrooms with sheets, duvet covers, wallpaper and curtains; move into the bathroom and there are towels and shower curtains. Until recently, however, it was difficult to use the sweet style of Laura Ashley design throughout the bathroom - steam and moisture can cause wallpaper woes.
Now there’s Laura Ashley tile, which, when used to surround bathtubs and shower enclosures, looks just like wallpaper only it’s waterproof. And it’s beautiful. The same gentle strawberry and blueberry designs, the small flowers on a field of white, and some of the more bold designs with roots in nature are available in a variety of tile sizes and borders. Be forewarned: Like many designer products, they are pricey (about $10-$17 per tile).
Laura Ashley tile is manufactured by American Olean; we found the line on display at Linoleum & Carpet City, 1426 W. Francis.
Mark your calendars: The Corbin Art Center Fine Arts and Crafts Christmas Sale has a Victorian theme this year. More than 70 regional artists will offer handmade decorations with a Victorian flair. The sale will be Dec. 2 and 3 at the D.C. Corbin Mansion, 507 W. Seventh.
A neighborhood project: The Spokane County Historic Preservation office has been awarded a $7,000 grant to identify historic structures in the Rockwood Neighborhood, which is significant in that it was an area designed by the Olmsted brothers, famous landscape architects. The project will include volunteers photographing and documenting buildings, a research project by the Hutton Elementary School students, a student survey and a master’s thesis project.
