James Stokoe Recipient Of Masonic Lodge Scholarship
James Stokoe, a University High School senior, was one of five state winners to receive $1,000 scholarships in the 1994-95 Outstanding Junior Competition of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Washington.
This year 1,000 junior-class students from more than 200 schools competed for the award. They were judged on school and extra-curricular activities, a series of essays and their GPA.
Last April, Stokoe also received a $100 savings bond from the East Gate Masonic Lodge 222 for being named Outstanding Male Junior Classman.
Alison McLeod, a senior in English and education at Washington State University, was elected president of the Golden Key honor society. She is a 1991 graduate of Pullman High School and the daughter of Douglas and Susan McLeod, Pullman.
Rep. Todd Mielke, (R-Nine Mile Falls) received the 1995 Cornerstone Award by the Association of Washington Business for his dedication to improving Washington’s economy and business climate.
The Cornerstone Award is presented to lawmakers who voted at least 80 percent of the time during the 1995 Legislative Session in favor of positions supported by AWB members.
Georgia Tiffany, a Spokane poet, was a runner-up in a contest sponsored by the Bainbridge Island Arts & Humanities Council for its 10th Anniversary Edition of the Northwest Poets & Artists Calendar.
Christian Koehler, a Spokane County agent, received the Dean Don Felker Financial Management Award during the annual meeting of the National Association of Extension Home Economists in Dallas.
The award is designed to promote financial management programs which focus on handling credit, budgeting, understanding tax laws, and other financial decisions.
Charles Simon, Spokane, has been retained by Microsoft Corporation to complete a network on-line service project at their company headquarters in Redmond, Wash., over the next three to six months.
Simon, president of Abtek Computer Corp., is considered a nationally recognized software developer.
He will be the program manager in charge of production for Microsoft’s News Service, which compiles news reports for the company’s on-line service available to Windows95 customers.
Phu Thanh Duong, a fourth year student at Washington State University’s College of Engineering and Architecture, was one of five Northwest students awarded the Tony Callison Memorial Minority Scholarship. He will receive $3,000 for the 1995-96 school year.
