Bryant Grabs Second-Round Lead

Compiled From Wire Services

Brad Bryant shot a 2-under-par 68 for a 3-under 137 total after two trips around a Southern Hills course that yielded no more than four subpar rounds for the second straight day at the Tour Championship at Tulsa, Okla.

Bryant, who got his first PGA victory this year after playing in more than 400 tournaments, leads first-round leader Billy Mayfair by one shot. Woody Austin, who shot a 68, is another stroke back at 139.

There was only a slight breeze when the round started, but it picked up strength as the day went on. By the time Bryant and Mayfair, the final of the 15 twosomes in the select field, reached the 11th hole, the wind almost grounded a yellow, blimp-like balloon which was tied to the ground.

Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett shot a 71 for a two-round total 148.

At Kaanapali, Hawaii, Dave Stockton, the Senior PGA Tour’s leading money winner, and rookie Bruce Summerhays shot 6-under-par 65s to share the lead after the first round of Kaanapali Classic.
