HEISMAN HOPEFULS
Tommie Frazier, QB/Sr., Nebraska: In Huskers’ 44-21 win over Colorado, Frazier threw for a career-high 241 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a score. Frazier was 14 of 23.
Keyshawn Johnson, WR/Sr., USC: In the Trojans’ 21-21 tie with Washington, Johnson caught eight passes for 111 yards and no touchdowns.
Eddie George, RB/Sr., Ohio State: In Buckeyes’ 56-35 spanking of Iowa, George had TD runs of 3, 9, 10 and 3, all in the first half. He finished with 110 yards on 15 carries.
Troy Davis, RB/Soph., Iowa State: In Cyclones’ 38-14 win over Oklahoma State, Davis scored one touchdown on an 8-yard run. He finished with 202 yards on 37 carries. Davis has 1,526 yards on the season and is averaging 6.1 per carry.
Danny Wuerffel, QB/Jr., Florida In No. 3 Gators’ 52-17 romp over Georgia, Wuerffel passed for 242 yards and five touchdowns in less than three quarters. He completed 14 of 17 passes.
HOPEFULS WITH THE DAY OFF
Florida State RB Warrick Dunn and QB Danny Kanell had the day off. The Seminoles play Virginia on Thursday.
SIDELINE SALUTES
Steve Sarkisian of Brigham Young completed 19 of 24 passes for 266 yards and three TDs in three quarters as the Cougars defeated Hawaii 45-7.
Terry Peebles threw seven TD passes and completed his first 18 passes to lead Hanover to a 73-23 rout of RoseHulman in a Division III game.
Brian Shallcross hit two field goals in the game’s final 2 minutes - the last a 47-yarder with no time remaining - as William & Mary beat Villanova 18-15.
Amani Toomer of Michigan had 177 yards on five catches, his first 100-yard receiving game of the season, including TDs of 75 and 52 yards against Minnesota.
Wake Forest’s Rusty LaRue completed 55 of 78 passes for 478 yards, including 41 completions in the second half, in the Demon Deacons’ 42-26 loss to Duke. LaRue, a reserve guard on the school’s basketball team, broke the major-college completion records of 48 in a game and 32 in a half, both set by Houston’s David Klingler against SMU in 1990. His attempts fell one shy of the NCAA mark of 79 by TCU’s Matt Vogler against Houston in 1990.
