Trains Collide, Spilling Fuel

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Burlington Northern train rammed into a train that was stopped on the tracks in Boundary County, spilling diesel fuel Saturday afternoon.

A train carrying grain had stopped about 10 miles south of Bonners Ferry to check a brake problem when the second train, carrying six Burlington Northern employees, smacked into it.

No one was seriously injured, but one of the workers complained of a sore shoulder.

About 1,500 gallons of fuel leaked from the train before railroad workers were able to stop the spill.

Some of the fuel spilled into a nearby creek, but railroad officials believe contamination was kept to a minimum.
