Tri-City Defeats Spokane

The Tri-City Americans ended a three-game losing streak and handed Spokane a two-game losing streak by beating the Chiefs 6-3 on Saturday night.

The two-game losing streak is the first one of the season for the Chiefs.

The Americans scored first, and early, when Jaroslav Sveljkovsky rebounded a Daymond Langkow wrist shot from the left circle after a minute had expired.

Then, at the 13:25 mark of the first period, Langkow scored on a power play goal. The Chiefs were down a player after Hugh Hamilton was whistled for hooking at 13:20.

In the second, Spokane cut the lead to 2-1 when Trent Whitfield scored his fourth goal of the year with Spokane a man down.

After each team scored another goal, Spokane’s Jason Podollan tied it at three at 10:34 in the second. Podollan took a breakout pass from John Cirjak and got around defenseman Dan Focht.

As Focht pulled Podollan down with a hook, he was managed to slip the puck by Americans goalie Brian Boucher inside left post.

But that would be all the scoring for Spokane.

Langkow got a power-play goal at 16:02 of the second period and sent the Americans on their way. T-C added one more goal in the second and another in the third to ice the victory.

The Chiefs have already won three-of-four contests against the Americans this season.

Spokane is off until Saturday, when it will take on Brandon before playing six straight on the road.
