‘Killer Instinct’ Video Game Released

Roy Bassave Miami Herald

A new fighter hit the streets last week: “Killer Instinct” ($75) is a 32-meg Super NES home-release version of an arcade game that makes “Mortal Kombat” look like a Disney product.

The one- or two-player game was co-developed by Nintendo and Rare, using Rare’s Advanced Computer Modeling (ACM) design technology to create a faithful translation of the arcade blockbuster - complete with the multi-hit combination moves that set a new standard for arcade fighting games.

The game is more gory than “MK,” in part because some of the fighters are inhuman creatures like Riptor and Sabrewulf. One-on-one battles let players inflict from three- to 46-hit combinations.

Not only does “Killer Instinct” equip each character with special moves, but it also features air attacks, release moves, shadow moves and fearful danger moves. Each character possesses his/her own special moves - B. Orchid has Fire Cat, Riptor uses Dragon Breath and Chief Thunder his Reverse Triplax.
