Kara Claypool Spokane

Memorial service for Kara Christena Claypool, 7, is planned for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at Fourth Memorial Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Kara died Wednesday from complications due to AIDS.

She was born in Spokane and was the first publicly known child with AIDS to attend a Spokane school.

She was a student at Willard Elementary School.

Kara is survived by her mother Joyce Macko-Claypool; two brothers, Douglas “Dale” Claypool II and Christopher Claypool, both at home; one sister, Jessica Williams of Joplin, Mo.; her grandparents Joseph and Joyce Macko of Spokane, and Richard and Dela Favaro of Spokane; and her great-grandmother Christena Claypool of Osburn, Idaho.

John Black Valley, Wash.

Service for John W. “Jack” Black, 92, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Jump Off Joe, Wash. Burial will follow at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery in Jump Off Joe. Schanzenbach Funeral Home, Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Black, who died Wednesday, was born in Gifford, Idaho.

He graduated from Columbia College in Idaho.

He played the organ at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Valley for 25 years, and had played music in the Air Force and Marine bands.

Mr. Black had worked at Northwest Magnesite in Chewelah. He had served in the Marines and the Army, and retired from the Air Force. He also retired from the Postal Credit Union.

He is survived by his wife, June Black; two sons, John Black of Seattle and James Black of Valley; two daughters, Julie Diaz of Carlsbad, Calif., and Judy Bradbury of Valley; one sister Anne Lindsay of Roseburg, Ore.; and 10 grandchildren.

Sandy Pi-Chao Lin Spokane

Service for Sandy Pi-Chao Lin, 46, is set for 11 a.m. Sunday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Born in Taiwan, Mrs. Lin died Wednesday.

She moved to Spokane in 1978 and in 1979 opened Lin’s Garden, a restaurant in Hillyard.

She had graduated from nursing school in Taiwan.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Jung-Chung Lin; one son, Thomas Lin and one daughter, Wendy Lin, all at home; one brother, Kuang Hsiung Lai and her mother, Rau Yueh-Lang Lai, both of Taiwan.

Richard Ellifritt Des Moines, Iowa

Graveside service for longtime Spokane resident Richard “Allan” Ellifritt, 53, will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane.

Mr. Ellifritt, who was born in Tacoma, died earlier this month of a heart attack at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

He had lived in Spokane for many years and served in the Marine Corps as a gunnery sergeant. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and then Des Moines in 1980, where he later retired.

Survivors include his wife, Jesusa ; four sons, Ken of Waynesboro, Pa., Rick of Anaheim, Calif., Tony of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Ed of Des Moines; a daughter, Stacy Araquistain of Bakersfield, Calif; two brothers, Jim of Portland and Ernie of Spokane; two sisters, Della McCabe of Tacoma and Verna LaBarr of Post Falls; 13 grandchildren; and a niece.

Cleal Countryman Spokane

Service for Cleal F. Countryman, 86, will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Countryman, who was born in Daisy, Wash., died Wednesday.

He was a longtime Spokane resident and worked as a pressman at The Spokesman-Review for 45 years, before retiring in 1973.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eva Countryman; two daughters, Barbara Manos of Priest Lake, Idaho, and Donna King of Spokane; four brothers, Elmer and Roxie Countryman, both of Spokane, Robert Marr of Tacoma and Richard Silvey of Newman Lake; one sister, Mary Conner of Spokane; three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Rev. James Wilson Woodburn, Ore.

Memorial service for Rev. James T. Wilson, was held July 25 in Woodburn. Funeral Mass was held at St. John’s Parish in Seattle. Burial was at Mount St. Michael’s Cemetery in Spokane.

Rev. Wilson, who was born in Seattle, died July 14. He was 71.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He graduated from Seattle University and then entered the Jesuits. He was ordained at St. Aloysius Church in Spokane in 1960.

He had served as assistant minister of the Jesuit community at Gonzaga University from 1964 until 1986 and had served as a dormitory prefect. He had also served as chaplain of St. Joseph’s Children Home. He later was assigned to churches in Lewiston, Missoula and Woodburn.

He is survived by two brothers, Harry Wilson of Bellevue, Wash., and Joseph Wilson of Hansville, Wash.; and one sister, Mary Simmons of San Jose, Calif.

Eleanor Hyde Beaulieu Greenacres

Visitation for Eleanor Hyde Beaulieu, 86, will be Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Hayden Lake, Idaho. Service will be at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Beaulieu, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday at the Good Samaritan Home in Greenacres.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene at a young age and was raised by her stepfather, a steamboat captain on Lake Coeur d’Alene, after both her parents died from tuberculosis.

She attended Lakeview grade school in Coeur d’Alene and later finished the eighth grade in Carlin Bay.

She married Sheldon Hyde in Spokane in 1927 and lived in Kootenai and Shoshone Counties. She ran a boarding house and worked as a store clerk and cook. She was a waitress at the Owl Cafe in Hayden Lake until her retirement in 1974.

Her first husband died in 1966.

She married Ray Beaulieu in 1968 and he died earlier this year.

She was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Ted and Dallas.

She loved the outdoors and was an avid flower gardener.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Hyde of Post Falls and Neil Hyde of Spokane; one daughter, Norma Bratlie of Greenacres; one stepson, Alfred Beaulieu of Westbridge, British Columbia; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Gerald Stintzi Spokane

Graveside service for Gerald R. Stintzi, 80, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stintzi, who died Wednesday, was born in Minneapolis.

He had lived in Spokane for 38 years and drove for Spokane Transit Authority for 37 years.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lois Stintzi of Spokane; three children; and several grandchildren.

James Linville Spokane

Memorial service for James H. Linville, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Born in Middletown, Ohio, Mr. Linville died Aug. 24.

He had lived in Spokane for 46 years and worked as a drywall installer. He served in the Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lola Linville; three sons, James, Jerry and Ralph Linville, all of Spokane; one brother and two sisters; nine grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.

Eric Mason Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Eric E. Mason, 28, will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mason, who was born in Santa Ana, Calif., died Monday in an automobile accident while vacationing in British Columbia.

He went to school and attended college in Beaumont, Calif., and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1993. He was recently employed as a home builder for Pete Ellis Construction.

Mr. Mason was a member of the Bethel Baptist and Potter House Churches. He loved camping, hunting, fishing and biking.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Murray of Beaumont; one brother, Steve Murray of Missouri; one sister, Gilinda Lang of Beaumont; grandmother, Gladys Moore of Nyssa, Ore.; special friend, Ranae Tracey of Coeur d’Alene; and several nieces and nephews.

Gary Hendrickson Columbus, Mont.

Memorial service for Gary W. Hendrickson, 46, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church. Private burial will preceded at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hendrickson, who was born in Everett, died Tuesday of a heart attack while hiking in Montana.

He graduated from Marysville (Wash.) High School and served in the Air Force.

He worked as comptroller at Rexcon Corp., and for 11 years at Pegasus Gold Corp., where he eventually was marketing manager. In 1994 he became assistant treasurer of Stillwater Mining Co., in Nye, Mont.

He had lived in Spokane for 21 years. His family moved to Columbus earlier this year.

Mr. Hendrickson was a member of Shadle Park Presbyterian Church and was an elder there. He and his wife, Mary Kay, served as treasurer of the presbytery of the Inland Northwest for six years.

He volunteered with Youth for Understanding International Exchange and had hosted four students.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Kevin, Melissa, and Laura, all at home; his parents, Don and Marian Hendrickson of Marysville, Wash.; two brothers, Larry Hendrickson of Marysville and Alan Hendrickson of Everett; and one sister, Margie Baker of Everett.
