Area Military Persons Get Promotions, Awards
The following Inland Northwest residents have been promoted to their present military ranks:
Marine Pvt. Scott Van Cleave, son of Robert Van Cleave, Pasco, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Kevin Kelsey, son of Steven Kelsey, Walla Walla, U.S. Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, Calif. He is a 1980 graduate of Walla Walla High School.
Marine Pvt. Jonathan Hinton, son of Sherrel Hinton, Pasco, and Debra Hinton, Richland, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. He is a 1994 graduate of Hanford High School, Richland.
2nd Lt. John Peak, son of Don Peak, Orange, Calif., and Mary Alexieve, Spokane, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. He is a 1991 graduate of North Central High School.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Annette Huls, daughter of Marilyn Smith, Ione, U.S. Naval Air Station, Lemoore, Calif.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Jeffrey Boschee, son of Fred and Dianne Boschee, Spokane, is stationed with the Coast Guard aboard the Cutter Steadfast, based in St. Petersburg, Fla. He is a 1992 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.
Cpl. Ryan Berendson, son of Robert and Wanda Rains, Chewelah, Wash., is stationed with the U.S. Marine Corps in Yuma, Ariz. He is a 1992 graduate of Jenkins High School, Chewelah.
Marine PFC Christy Kitchen, daughter of William and Judy Kitchen, Richland, U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. She is a 1994 graduate of Hanford High School, Richland.
The following military people from the Inland Northwest have received awards:
Seaman Recruit Mikeal Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mikeal Adams, Spokane, received the Military Order of the World Wars Award upon completion of basic training at the U.S. Naval Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Mich.
Senior Chief Petty Officer Gary Steward, son of Jacquita Steward Leaming, Spokane, received the Navy Commendation Medal. He is stationed with the Navy at Whidbey Island, Wash., and a graduate of Gonzaga Prep.
Cpl. Michael Haworth, son of Elaine McBeth and stepson of Roy McBeth, Spokane, received the U.S. Army Achievement Medal. He is stationed with the Army at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colo. He is a 1989 graduate of West Valley High School.
Spec. Paula Guthrie, daughter of Bardie Guthrie, Spokane, received the U.S. Army Achievement Medal. She is stationed at Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska, and is a 1992 graduate of Gonzaga Prep.
Lt. Col. Steven Zehetmir, son of Lois Moe, Spokane, received the Meritorious Service Medal. He is stationed with the Army’s 80th Area Support Group, Europe. He is a graduate of Mead High School and Washington State University.
Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Hole, son of Ray and Lisa Hole, Richland, received his third Navy Achievement Medal. He is stationed aboard the USS Florida, based in Bangor, Wash., and is a 1979 graduate of Kamiakin High School, Kennewick.
Col. Roger Buckman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Buckman, Spokane, received the Meritorious Service Medal at his retirement ceremony at Peterson AFB, Colo., after 30 years of service. He is a graduate of Shadle Park High School and Washington State University.
