Algerian Journalist, Cartoonist Slain
A journalist was gunned down outside her home Monday and a political cartoonist was found dead. No one claimed responsibility, but Muslim radicals trying to wreck November presidential elections have been stepping up attacks.
Three people - another journalist and two foreign nuns - were killed Sunday.
Yasmina Brikh, who worked for Radio-Culture, was killed in the eastern Algiers suburb of Eucalyptus, an area considered a rebel stronghold.
Earlier Monday, a political cartoonist for the pro-government El Moudjahid newspaper was found shot to death. Brahim Garoui, 40, had been abducted from his home in Eucalyptus.
