Bullpups Take Early Lead In Gsl Volleyball; Ferris Clobbers Shadle

Gonzaga Prep has never finished better than .500 in Greater Spokane League volleyball, but that’s apparently old and outdated news.

Brandy Barratt had 17 kills and nine blocks Thursday as new-look G-Prep jumped to the head of the GSL pack with a 15-7, 15-12, 14-16, 15-8 win over visiting North Central.

Prep (2-0) fell behind 7-4 in the second game but rallied. After a third-game loss, the Bullpups focused on working around NC’s Tamara Van Engelen and Aimee Wilson.

Van Engelen had 14 kills and six blocks and Wilson added 13 kills and eight digs for the Indians (0-1).

Story Tombari paced Prep in aces (four), assists (37) and digs (nine). NC’s Sara Menard had 20 assists.

One of Prep’s top challengers also had a productive evening.

At Shadle Park, Ferris (1-0) started strongly with a 15-3, 15-12, 15-3 win over the five-time State AAA champion Highlanders (1-1).

Molly Jones and 31 assists and two aces, K.C. Richards 11 digs and Missy Blackshire 15 kills for the Saxons.

Shadle, which played without outside hitter Kelli Pilkington (broken hand), did not report any statistics.
