Introducing New Film Critics
His favorite actress is Sandra Bullock, hers is Juliette Binoche. Will they ever agree?
Maybe, maybe not. But Our Generation’s new movie reviewers definitely have their own opinions about movies and what they think make good ones. You’re about to hear a lot of them.
Meet Jeff Sackmann, a sophomore from Mead High School, and Jessica Johnson, a senior at Lakeland High School in Idaho. They were chosen from more than 30 applicants to Our Generation to become our official film fanatics.
Jessica and Jeff will take turns pontificating on the latest movies, telling you which ones are worth your money, which ones aren’t worth your time. Occasionally they’ll take a “He said/She said” approach to the movies they just don’t see eye to eye on.
Jessica says going to movies is one of her biggest interests, though listening to music and playing the flute rank pretty high. She’s been a nanny and a trapsetter and has a 4.0 grade point average at Lakeland. She’s also on the Coeur d’Alene StaFit swim team and a member of the National Honor Society.
Her tastes in movies? Art house and foreign films top the list.
Jeff takes a more universal look at the movies. “I like just about anything except I’m not into cheesy Disney movies, like ‘The Mighty Ducks,”’ he said. His favorites, though, are action adventure and movies with political implications, like the movie he reviewed for today, “Beyond Rangoon.”
Jeff also likes music (he plays the saxophone and French horn) and baseball. He’s collected more than 3,500 autographs from professional players.
Now you know a little bit about them; for the next year, they’ll tell you a little about the movies you hope to see.
