Frieda Owen Four Lakes

Memorial service for Frieda Owen, 101, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Born in Germany, Mrs. Owen died Saturday.

She immigrated to the United States in 1907 and studied at the Child Saving Institute in Omaha, Neb.

She worked as a nanny before she moved in 1926 to the Four Lakes area where her family operated a dairy for many years.

She was a member of the Four Lakes Grange.

Her husband, Crayton, died in 1952.

She is survived two daughters, Molly Krueger and Lorraine McMillan, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Janie Paul Shelledy Spokane

Vigil service for Mary “Janie” Paul Shelledy is planned for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral.

Mrs. Shelledy, 69, died Sunday of cancer.

She was born in Dillon, Mont., but grew up and graduated from high school in Butte, Mont.

She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1947 and worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center, specializing in post-partum care.

She was active in the Sacred Heart Nursing Alumni Association and volunteered for Catholic Family Services’s dePorres Manor League for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Pat Shelledy of Spokane; one son, David Shelledy of Seattle; one daughter, Patty Shelledy of Seattle; two brothers, Bob Paul of Lolo, Mont., and George Paul of Missoula.

May Davis Deer Lake, Wash.

Graveside service for May S. Davis, 90, will be at 11 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane. Lauer Funeral Home, Deer Park, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Davis, a former Ione/Metaline Falls, Wash., resident, died Sunday.

She was born in Minneapolis.

She graduated from Milan (Wash.) High School and worked for more than 30 years at the Ione Community Hospital as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper.

Her husband, Harold, died in 1972.

She is survived by one daughter, Joanna Everts of Deer Lake; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

John Owens Spokane

Memorial service for John Henry Owens, 75, will be at 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Born in Hamilton, Mont., Mr. Owens died Thursday.

He retired from the Air Force in 1969 after 27 years.

He moved to Spokane in 1967 and graduated from Eastern Washington University. He taught in the Deer Park, Mead and Spokane school districts.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son, Daniel Owens; one daughter, Susan Owens Jones; three grandsons, four granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Harold Kenyon Spokane

Memorial service for R. Harold Kenyon, 99, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeNorth.

Mr. Kenyon died Monday.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School.

He graduated from Harvard University in 1918 and joined the Navy shortly before the end of World War I.

He worked for the Washington State Department of Highways in Spokane, Seattle, Yakima and Olympia. He retired in 1962 and moved to Spokane in 1965.

He was a member of El Katif Shrine, Scottish Rite Bodies and Tyrian Masonic Lodge No. 96.

His wife, Dorothy Kenyon, died in 1989.

He is survived by one son, Robert Kenyon Jr. of Spokane; one sister, Mable Werner of Laguna Hills, Calif.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jerry Lehnertz Kahlotus, Wash.

Graveside service for Jerry Lee Lehnertz, 40, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pioneer Cemetery in Washtucna, Wash. He will be buried next to his grandparents. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lehnertz died Sunday in a car accident south of Kahlotus.

He was born in Ritzville.

He graduated from Astoria (Ore.) High School in 1973 and returned to Washtucna in 1977. He worked on his grandfather’s farm until 1981, when his grandfather died. He then began working for the Louis Dreyfus Corp., at Winddust, Wash.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Gerritsen of Lincoln City, Ore.; one daughter, Desirae Lehnertz of Kahlotus; and two sons, Matthew and Zachery Lehnertz, both of Lincoln City; his mother, Jacqueline Gerritson of Gladstone, Ore.; his stepfather, Chic Lehnertz of Spokane; one brother, Terry Lehnertz of Oregon City; four sisters, Sherry Gleave of Oregon City, Debbie Kirchhofer of Portland, Susie Miller of Tigard, Ore., and Amy Pfeifer of Wilsonville, Ore.

Naomie Harnish Spokane

Memorial service for Naomie O. Harnish, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeNorth.

Born in LaCrosse, Wash., Mrs. Harnish died Saturday.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

She and her husband, Edward, owned Harnish Shoes and Clothing in Dishman until 1964.

Mrs. Harnish was a member of Alpha Delta Pi.

Her husband died in 1989.

She is survived by one son, Richard Harnish of Bellevue, Wash.; two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

Veronica Campbell Spokane

Memorial service for Veronica E. Campbell, 70, is set for 5 p.m. Sept. 21 at St. Stevens Chapel of the Resurrection. She will buried with her brother in St. Ignatius, Mont., on Sept. 27. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Campbell, who was born in Spokane, died Sept. 4.

She was a former Coeur d’Alene resident and was a longtime Spokane resident.

She had worked as a nurse and later as a bartender.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna “Kim” Campbell, and one sister, Arlene Owens.

Joyce Spencer Spokane

Service for Joyce Joy Spencer, 68, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, East Stake Center. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Lewis Clark Memorial Park in Lewiston. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Spencer, who was born in Grace, Idaho, died Saturday.

She and her husband, Elmer Spencer, moved to Lewiston in 1950 and to Spokane in 1985.

She was a homemaker and was a Bluebird and Camp Fire leader, Cub Scout leader and Mother’s Club officer.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lewiston 2nd Ward and Spokane 18th Ward.

Her husband died in 1984.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Spencer of Lewiston and Jonathon Spencer of Idaho Falls; two daughters, Jeanne Sandy of Minden, Nev., and Glenda Hain of Yuma, Ariz.; three sisters, Jessie Wilson of Boise, Marjorie Pack of Ukiah, Calif., and Mildred Williams of Spokane; two brothers, James Parkhouse Jr. of Grace, Idaho, and Fred Parkhouse of Lewiston; and 12 grandchildren.

Glen Greenwell Pullman

Service for Glen Greenwell, 82, was Monday at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Burial was at the Pullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Greenwell, who was born in Pullman, died Friday.

He graduated from Johnson (Wash.) High School and farmed with his father south of Pullman. He retired from farming in 1963.

Mr. Greenwell also worked for Jorstad Flying Service for 10 years.

He was a member of White Pine Baptist Church in Moscow, Idaho.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rowena Greenwell; one daughter, Ellen Kelso of Pullman; two grandsons, one granddaughter and three great-grandsons.

Wendell Mauss Spokane

Service for Wendell V. Mauss, 77, was Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bowdish Chapel.

Mr. Mauss, born in Salt Lake City, died Thursday.

He graduated from the Latter-day Saints Business College in Salt Lake City and served in the Army during World War II.

He and his wife, Virginia Nelson, moved to Spokane in 1954.

He worked as a salesman in the coal industry from 1954 until 1973. He also worked in real estate in the Spokane Valley for more than 10 years before retiring in 1983.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia Mauss; five sons, Bruce Mauss of Spokane, Michael Mauss of Japan, Stephen Mauss of Orlando, Fla., Kevin Mauss of Bothell, Wash., and Robert Kendall of Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Alberta Stokke Potlatch, Idaho

Memorial service for Alberta E. Stokke, 82, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church in Potlatch. Ashes will be buried at the Potlatch Cemetery at a later date. Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stokke died Saturday at Latah Health Services in Moscow, Idaho.

She was born in Humboldt, Neb.

She and her husband, Allan Stokke, lived in Potlatch. She worked as a cook for the Potlatch School District and also did custodial work with her husband. She retired in 1975.

Her husband died in 1979.

She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Women of the Moose, and Working Women, all of Potlatch.

Survivors include four daughters, Geneva Hubner of Moscow, Idaho, Evelyn Emerson of Kent, Wash., Edith Grim of Pomeroy, Wash., and Luella Campbell of Calimesa, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
