Right-Wing Protesters Scuffle With Arabs

Compiled From Wire Services

Right-wing Israeli protesters scuffled Tuesday with Palestinians escorting an Israeli Arab legislator visiting a school near the PLO headquarters in east Jerusalem. No one was injured.

Police arrested a Palestinian with legislator Hashem Mahameed and a Jewish protester suspected of spitting on the lawmaker, said police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby.

As Mahameed left the school, his escorts and Jewish protesters encamped outside the PLO’s headquarters, the Orient House, exchanged blows, Ben-Ruby said.

The Jewish protesters want the Orient House shut down. They have skirmished with Palestinian students from area schools daily since the school year started last week.
