Russian Immigrant Shot In Shoulder

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 20-year-old man who was shot Tuesday night in West Central Spokane said he was doing well after being released from the hospital.

Another man, Archie Doster, 56, was arrested late Tuesday on a charge of first-degree assault.

Doster is accused of firing a shot that struck Slava Solodyankin in the shoulder at North Nettleton and West Dean.

Solodyankin was released after treatment at Deaconess Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.

Solodyankin, a Russian immigrant, said he was driving through the West Central area after choir practice at a nearby Russian Baptist church.

Some people yelled for him to stop and an argument ensued, he said.

Doster, who lives near the intersection, allegedly shot Solodyankin in the shoulder. Efforts to reach Doster were unsuccessful.

Trouble has plagued Solodyankin’s family this year.

Five of his cousins were orphaned after a Bellingham fire that killed his aunt, uncle and four other cousins last April, less than a year after they fled their native country for Spokane.
