Devils Signing Delayed

Compiled From Wire Services

The signing of a 12-year lease to keep the New Jersey Devils at Byrne Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, N.J., which was scheduled for today, will be delayed until Oct. 13.

Superior Court Judge Peter Ciolino granted the extension.

When the two sides reached agreement on the lease in July, Ciolino suspended the authority’s request for a temporary restraining order to keep the Devils from moving to Nashville, Tenn.

If the two sides ultimately do not sign the lease, the Devils are free to leave New Jersey after the 1995-96 season.

The New York Islanders acquired center Alexander Semak from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a fifth-round selection in the 1997 entry draft.
