Ritzville Survives Poor Half To Win

The sixth-ranked Broncos (1-0, 2-0) made four first-half turnovers but still held a 7-6 lead at Ritzville. Then they scored on their first drive of the second half and stopped the Lancers (1-1, 1-1) on their next possession. Ritzville’s Andy Hilzer rushed 15 times for 126 yards and scored on a 22-yard interception return. Jason Warriner had a 31-yard scoring run as the the Broncos rushed for 244 yards.

FitzPatrick scored on runs of 8, 20 and 9 yards and Marty Parsons added a 36-yard pass to Cliff Swain in the third period for Davenport.

Brett Bly rushed for 91 yards and the Sprague-Harrington Falcons (1-1, 1-1) made a 14-0 lead stand up despite two secondperiod touchdowns by the Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors (0-2, 0-2).

Bly had one scoring run of 38 yards and set up another TD with a 28-yarder, while teammate Travis Wagner rushed for 91 yards.

Republic’s Jason Baldwin passed for 143 yards and two touchdowns, both to Mark Rickard, and the Tigers (2-0, 2-0) ripped to a 34-0 halftime lead on the road.

Rickard caught scoring passes of 12 and 25 yards and David Hanks returned an interception 65 yards for a second-quarter touchdown as the Tigers handed the Wildcats their second straight loss.

Sophomore Rick Wells scored on a blocked punt recovery and an 85-yard interception return at Colfax as the Bulldogs downed Class B Garfield-Palouse.

Colfax quarterback Andy Asbjornsen ran 19 yards for one touchdown and passed 60 yards to K.C. Becker for another. The Vikings led 8-6 in the second period, but Colfax scored the next three touchdowns.

Joe Gering scored six touchdowns and rushed for 196 yards on 20 carries for the Eagles (1-1), who led 52-12 after three periods in an eight-man game at Lind.

Gering rushed for four TDs, caught a scoring pass and ran a punt back, while Lind’s Rigo Montejano passed for three touchdowns to Kevin Pennel and rushed for Lind’s other two. The Bulldogs are 0-2.

Cusick (1-1) rebounded from last week’s 16-point loss to the Spartans with a big eight-man victory at home, rolling to a 26-0 halftime lead.

Panther running back Travis Stigall rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Brad Scott passed for two TDs and ran for another. Both his scoring passes were to Ron Russell, for 60 and 20 yards. Rosalia defeated Cusick 28-16 in last week’s opener.

The visiting Indians (2-0) did all their scoring in the first half at Medical Lake, including a firstquarter touchdown that climaxed a 99-yard drive following a Cardinal fumble.

Jason Galbreath rushed for 82 yards for ninth-ranked Reardan and Vince Moore had 80 for the Cardinals (0-1), who were penalized 16 times for 130 yards. Sophomore Tony Adams returned a fumble 47 yards for a touchdown for Reardan, and the Indians intercepted two ML passes.

The Tigers (1-1) trailed 26-0 in the second period, but Lance Meise scored three times, including a 23-yarder with 2:10 to play, as Odessa won an eight-man thriller at home.

LaCrosse-Washtucna quarterback Jeremy Daniel passed for four touchdowns, two to Joe Kinch including a 74-yarder in the second period. Kinch also scored on a 27-yard run. Odessa QB Randy Carlson threw for two TDs, while Meise scored on runs of 6 and 43 yards in addition to his game-winner. Odessa scored 36 second-half points.

Meise finished with 164 yards rushing and Carlson passed for 208.

At Coeur d’Alene, six different Vikings scored touchdowns and placekicker Ben Davis booted a 48-yard field goal against the Stags, who were playing up two size classifications.

The Vikings (1-2) led 14-0 after one period against Deer Park (0-2), which was playing without starting quarterback Trevor Baker. Stag linebacker Bob Krous recorded 16 tackles.
