Irvan Ready To Race Again
NASCAR driver Ernie Irvan, once given only a 10 percent chance to survive injuries from a crash, has received medical clearance to race again.
NASCAR spokesman Kevin Triplett confirmed at Dover Downs, where the MBNA 200/500 doubleheader is running this weekend, that Irvan has been given approval to resume competition, including in Winston Cup cars.
Irvan’s first start, however, probably will be in the sanctioning body’s new SuperTruck Series for pickups, either Sept. 23 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway or Sept. 30 at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Irvan said he still experiences double vision when he doesn’t wear an eye patch.
