Oregon Lands More High-Tech Projects
LSI Logic Corp., a Silicon Valley computer chip maker, plans to add a 600-worker research and development group to the office building and factory it is building in this Portland suburb.
Multnomah County commissioners approved a $113 million tax break last month to the corporation, which has plans to build a $4 billion six-factory complex during the next 15 years.
The research and development jobs are likely to be filled by highly paid engineers and would complement the lower-wage, lower-skill jobs planned for LSI’s Gresham factory.
In a related development, Samsung Electronics Co. announced Friday that it plans to build a new semiconductor plant in Oregon, but the exact location has not been revealed.
Samsung said the plant likely would cost about $1.5 billion and employ 1,200 workers.
