Parenting Course Scheduled
Just how do you raise teenagers today? Although no one knows it all, a little advice can go a long way. Kirk Pranter, interim youth pastor at Valley Fourth Memorial Church, will teach an eight-week course called “Parenting Teens” starting Thursday.
Classes run every Thursday through Nov. 16 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
According to church spokeswoman Kristal Monroe, all classes will be held at Bowdish Junior High School, 2109 S. Skipworth Road.
The course deals with everything from how not to lose your cool with an argumentative teen and not to be put on the defensive to really listening to them to find out what problems dwell beneath the surface of conflicts. For more information or to register, call the church at 924-4525.
Youth missionaries to speak
Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 10422 E. Main, will host a group of missionaries from Zaire on Sunday night.
The missionaries will speak to the church’s junior high/high school youth group from 5 to 8 p.m. The youth group helped support some of the missionaries’ activities in Africa. The youths also regularly volunteer to work at shelters and other charitable organizations here.
“It’s putting their faith into action,” said Susan Heitstuman, a church spokeswoman. “They’re really active in social-awareness type things.”
Heitstuman said the public is invited.
Nursery dedication
Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will also hold a dedication ceremony Sunday for its new nursery.
The dedication will be part of the 11 a.m. service, titled “Celebrate the Children.”
The church’s new nursery is bigger, closer to the sanctuary, has new carpeting and most importantly to tykes, lots of new toys.
