Absentee Ballots Seal Levy Defeat

Absentee ballots Monday confirmed the second defeat this year for a Republic School District operating levy.

The levy’s 59.3 percent support on election night slipped to 58 percent when absentee ballots were counted Monday. The unofficial total was 412-299.

Under state law, the levy cannot be presented again this year.

The levy would have provided $165,000 for 1996 and $173,000 for 1997.
