Book Focuses On Running For Women
Many people think they have to be in superb physical shape to start running. That is not true. People start running as a way to get in shape, or stay in good condition for another sport. Running has many benefits for the body and soul; running unclogs the congested parts of your day and makes you feel like you can battle anything.
But it can be different for women and men, and almost anything a female would want to know about running will be found in “Running for Women,” by Joan Samuelson and Gloria Averbuch.
There are so many books out there on running, for men and women, but this book is a refreshing change because it focuses only on women and the way their bodies are built. Women can relate to the information in this book just as it is, instead of calibrating the info given for men.
Samuelson, a marathoner who won an Olympic gold medal, gives many excellent suggestions on almost everything that has to do with women and running. From shoes to bras to what to eat - to personal problems, to training for distance races, to the types of stretches and solutions to injuries, Samuelson covers it all.
She also talks about how running is 90 percent physical ability, 10 percent mental - a very important part of the sport. Samuelson describes personal habits and encourages others to follow her example or find a way to meet their needs. She shares how running has improved her life.
Samuelson’s book helped me realize running can be a fun sport for anyone - men and women, athletes and non-athletes. All it takes is a good pair of running shoes and some motivation. Soon you’ll be pushed by your own determination.
I learned a lot from reading “Running for Women” and would recommend it to any female runner, especially now during cross country season. I also recommend it to any female who might have the slightest inkling to run because the book starts out with the very basics of jogging for 15 minutes every other day and leads to marathon training for 16 weeks!
This book will leave you pumped up and make you want to become an athlete striving for your very best!
