Furse Won’t Run For Senate

From Staff Reports

Oregon Rep. Elizabeth Furse said Wednesday she is dropping out of the Democratic primary for Bob Packwood’s Senate seat, citing the pressure of raising campaign money.

“I went to Congress to have a positive impact on the lives of Oregonians,” Furse said.

“It is clear that in order to raise the money needed … I would have to do nothing but fund raise and would not be able to do the job I was elected to do by the voters of the 1st District of Oregon.”

Furse estimated it would take between $500,000 and $750,000 to run a credible campaign, and she would have to raise the money within the next six to eight weeks. , DataTimes
