Scout’s Honor, White House Message Was Surprise To 90-Year-Old, Family
Marie Lambert of Burley asked the White House to send a greeting for her mother’s 90th birthday celebration in December.
She was a little surprised recently when she opened a letter from Washington. It congratulated the mom - Marion Brasovan, who lives in Florida - for winning an Eagle Scout award.
“I ran outside and made my husband stop the lawn trimmer so I could show him and we had a good laugh,” Lambert says. Then she called a brother and they had another laugh.
Eagle Scout awards must be earned by Boy Scouts by the time they turn age 18.
Marie Lambert and other relatives worked to put together a memory book for their mother. They heard that if they wrote to the White House at least three months in advance, they’d receive a birthday greeting.
They got a greeting, signed by President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton. “With the presentation of your Eagle Scout award, you have reached one of these important milestones,” it said.
Lambert surmises that there’s an Eagle Scout somewhere who has received congratulations on turning 90. “It’s a memory and will go in the book,” she said.
