On two different occasions in the third quarter, Mead made first downs on five consecutive plays. First they went from their 23, reeling off plays of 15, 11, 10, 30 and 11 yards to score what proved to be the winning touchdown. … U-Hi had a 9-yard TD pass nullified by a holding penalty on its second possession and then missed a 37-yard field goal. Three turnovers ended other threats. … After U-Hi closed within 14-7, Mead QB Jason Lewis hurt an ankle when sacked but sophomore Nate Adams completed a 16-yard pass to get the Panthers out of a hole. … Mead lost starting linebacker Beau Chandler with a possible season-ending knee injury on the opening kickoff.
