Oakland To Keep Its Qb

Compiled From Wire Services

The Oakland Raiders finally landed their quarterback. They will announce in a press conference today that Jeff Hostetler has agreed to a new contract and will return to Oakland next season.

Hostetler, who turns 35 later this month, had floated in free agency for more than six weeks. He originally figured to attract interest from several teams, including Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

As it turned out, the Raiders essentially scared teams away with their right to match any offer Hostetler received. That clause was included in his previous contract.

The New York Giants took another significant step in re-signing their own players by agreeing to terms receiver Chris Calloway.

Exact terms were not available, but several people close to the situation said it is a three-year contract worth between $3 million and $4 million.
