Backpacking

The American Hiking Society offers a trail-maintenance program for people who want an active vacation.

The Volunteer Vacation program offers those 18 years and older to spend one or two weeks in the backwoods of areas in North Idaho and throughout the West.

Participants should be in good physical condition, have a backpack, sleeping bag and broken-in hiking boots and be prepared to pay a non-refundable $50 registration fee for administration costs.

Volunteers spend their vacations keeping trails in top-notch conditions.
