Missing Snowboarder Safe At Mount Rainier

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 17-year-old snowboarder was found Sunday morning after spending the night on Mount Rainier, national park officials say.

Jason Burpee of Tacoma was found about 9 a.m. walking up the Stevens Canyon Road east of Lake Louise. Park officials said he was in good condition.

Burpee and three companions had left Camp Muir at the 10,000-foot level of the mountain Saturday morning, rangers said. The party broke up on the way down so each member could descend at his own pace. Burpee was snowboarding, a companion was skiing and two were on foot.

Burpee was reported missing after he had failed to show up at Paradise by midafternoon Saturday.
