Wilbur Lane Spokane

Service for Wilbur Lane, 86, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Garland Avenue Alliance Church. Private burial will follow at the Marshall Community Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lane, who was born in Victoria, British Columbia, died on Wednesday. He was a Spokane resident for over 43 years.

He was an ordained Minister for the Christ Adventist Church. He was a proofreader for Father Palmers Braille Institute and was given the honor of Hero of the Year in 1990 by the combined right to life groups. He belonged to the Greater Spokane Evangelical Association.

He is survived by one step sister, Gertrude Lucas of Oregon City, Ore.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Teen-Aid Inc., Lilac City Blind Association and the Father Palmer Braille Institute.

Mike Castellan Coeur d’Alene

Funeral Mass for Mike Castellan, 70, will be today at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Castellan, who was born in Wallace, died Thursday.

He graduated from Wallace High School and attended the University of Idaho.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene 40 years ago and retired as a mine safety engineer for the federal government.

Mr. Castellan was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, and the Eagles and Elks Clubs.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Patricia; three daughters, Denice Wise of Coeur d’Alene, Deborah Castellan of Toppenish, Wash., and Colleen Segraves of California; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Charles Linstrum Davenport, Wash.

Service for Charles F. Linstrum, 100, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today,at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Linstrum, who died Wednesday, was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice.

His family moved from Iowa to Moran Prairie area in 190l. He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1913. After graduation from Washington State University in 1919 he moved to Davenport to farm his wife’s family homestead.

He was a member of Davenport Presbyterian Church, Bluestem Grange 776, Acacia Masonic Lodge 58, Eastern Star Chapter 131, Rainbow Dad Assembly 99, Clinton S. Brown 46 American Legion, El Katif Shrine, and a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by one son, Joseph Linstrum of Davenport; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ray Newman Spokane

No service was held for Ray Furman Newman. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Newman, 79, died April 3. He was a 16-year resident of Spokane.

He moved to Spokane from Pocatello in 1980 after retiring from a 35-year career with Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of Eagle Lodge.

He is survived by one daughter, Jerry Rae Hill of Tum Tum, Wash; four stepchildren, Carol Hardenbrook and Joan Marshall, both of Pocatello, Robert Smith of Mooloolah, Australia, and Wayne Smith of Soda Springs, Idaho; three grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren, and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Arthur Thomas Airway Heights, Wash.

Service for Arthur D. Thomas, 80, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thomas, who died April 2, was a 30-year resident of Airway Heights.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Mae Thomas, who died in 1991.

He retired from the Air Force in 1961 and worked as repairman for Sears. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3386, Air Force Sergeants Association, the Retired Enlisted Association and Non-commissioned Officers Association.

Ross Gumm Spokane

A memorial service for Ross W. Gumm, 79, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Millwood Presbyterian Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gumm, who died Wednesday ,was born in Colville.

A lifetime Spokane resident, he graduated from John Rogers High School in 1916.

Mr. Gumm worked for Kaiser Aluminum and retired in 1971 after 25 years with the company. He was a former partner in Western Mobile Homes. He was a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Loeta; two daughters, Judith Eigell and Daphne Pulliam, both of Spokane; three sons, Chuck Gumm of Seattle, Wayne Gumm of Post Falls, Idaho and Greg Gumm of Spokane; two sisters, Lucille McLaughlin of Spokane and Velda Oye of San Antonio, Texas; 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Millwood Presbyterian Church.

Claude “Bus” Stierwalt Jr. Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Claude Arthur “Bus” Stierwalt Jr., 76, will be today at the Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. He was born in Oklahoma as a member of the Cherokee Nation. He served as an aircraft mechanic in World War II in the Air Force.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1964 from Ephrata, Wash., and worked for Coeur d’Alene Service Station Equipment and Tom’s Electric as an electrician.

He was a founding member and a director of the board of the Kootenai County Property Owners Association. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Independent Foresters and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Lois; a daughter, Vera Grace; three brothers, Charles Stierwalt of California, and Raymond and Jay Stierwalt, all of Washington; three sisters, Jean Stroman, of Vancouver, Wash., JoAnn Pitts of Coulee City, Wash., and Jane Stierwalt of Ephrata Wash.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Edward Johnson Spokane

Service for Edward D. Johnson, 78, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, and burial with full United States Air Force military honors at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson a long time resident of Spokane, died Wednesday.

He was born in Eagle River, Wis.

Mr. Johnson retired from the United States Air Force in 1960 and was manager of the Masonic Temple for many years. He is a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Past Master and Life Member of Spokane Masonic Lodge No. 34, member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, York Rite Bodies, member of the El Katif Shrine where he was past captain of the Arab Patrol, Legion of Honor, North Spokane Shrine Club, 100 Million Dollar Club, Order of DeMolay, member of the Elks Lodge, Electa Chapter No. 20, Order of the Eastern Star, Royal Order of Scotland, Red Cross of Constantine 1974, Most Puissant Sovereign 1986, American Legion, Air Force Association and 84th Infantry Division Society.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Lorene Johnson.

Margaret Jamieson Spokane

Graveside service for Margaret Sims Jamieson, 67, will be 2 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jamieson died Thursday.

She was a lifetime resident of Spokane. Mrs. Jamieson worked as manager of the Spokane Press Club for 25 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member and former secretary of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Jamieson; one son, Robert Sims of Renton, Wash.; one daughter, Kathy Kline of Rathdrum, Idaho; three sisters, Betty Dow and Marion Coil, both of Spokane and Katherine Morrison of Bellingham, Wash., and four grandchildren.
