Ex-CV Star Kirk Will Attend Ewu

Tanya Kirk, a member of Central Valley’s undefeated 1993 State AAA championship team, gave an oral committment to Eastern Washington for women’s basketball.

Kirk, who played at North Idaho College last season, said, “I went with my heart. I like what (EWU coach) Heidi VanDerveer is doing with the program.”

Kirk, one of the top rebounders and scorers in Region 18 for NIC, also visited Washington State and Montana State.

A.R.T. Pro-Am

You won’t find Dave Killen’s name near the top of the leaderboard in Monday’s Athletic Round Table Pro-Am at Bryden Canyon.

But he may well have carried the biggest smile from the course in Lewiston.

Killen, 83, senior pro at Bryden, shot three strokes better than his age as he put together matching nines of 40 for a 9-over-par 80.

Mark Gardner, head pro at The Creek at Qualchan, continues to swing the hot club in the Pro-Am series, collecting his second victory with a 6-under 65 on nines of 33-32.

Five pros shared second two shots back.

Kirk Nelson of Kellogg was the leading amateur with a 1-under 70.

Three Spokane-area golfers - Chris Mitchell of Sundance, Mark Rohde of Rohde’s Golf Studio and Joe Trembly of Twin Lakes - advanced to today’s third round of the Washington State PGA Championship at Lacey, Wash.

After getting first-round byes, Mitchell beat John Thorsnes 6 and 5, Rohde won 5-4 over Mike Montgomery and Trembly beat Daniel Jarvie 2-1.

Idaho changes radio stations

The University of Idaho announced it has awarded broadcast rights for Vandals athletic events to Radio Palouse of Pullman, KHTR-FM (104.3). KRPL of Moscow had been the flagship station for UI sports.

Bob Curtis will remain “Voice of the Vandals.”
