Dollar Hits 26-Month High Vs. Yen

The dollar surged to a 26-month high against the Japanese yen Tuesday amid renewed optimism about the U.S. economy and concern over tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Against the German mark, the dollar rallied to a 14-month high. It rose broadly against other major currencies.

In late New York trading, the dollar was worth 108.30 yen, up from 107.75 late Monday and its highest late New York rate since February 1994. The dollar was also trading at 1.4982 marks, up from 1.4817 Monday and its best U.S. finish since February 1995.
