Betsy Burns Auburn, Wash.
Private service was held for Betsy H. Burns, 76, a former Spokane resident. Mrs. Burns, who died Saturday, was born in Bellevue, Wash.
She had lived in Spokane for 35 years and worked for the Valley Herald as a typographer. She moved to Auburn 12 years ago.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frank “Pete” Burns; two sons, Peter Burns of Hillsboro, Ore., and Stephen Burns of Seattle; one daughter, Cynthia Cleveland of Enumclaw, Wash.; one sister, Jewel Culver of Seattle; and seven grandchildren.
Michael Rinaldi Spokane
A wake for Michael Ian “Mike” Rinaldi, 17, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial at Pines Cemetery. A luncheon and birthday celebration will be held immediately following the burial, at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. He would have turned 18 on Easter Sunday. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rinaldi died in an accident Friday, in Hawaii, where he was spending his spring vacation on a marine biology study tour with other high school students.
He was a lifetime Spokane resident and would have graduated with honors from University High School in June. His parents and brother plan to accept his diploma at the graduation ceremony. He was accepted at Eastern Washington University and had applied for the honors program.
In high school, he was active in the DECA program and was a member of the Jazz Choir. He received numerous academic and choir awards for outstanding achievement, including Student of the Month and Honor Society.
Mr. Rinaldi was an athlete and played softball, soccer and baseball and lettered in tennis.
Survivors include his parents, Peter and Kathy Rinaldi of Spokane; one brother, Pete Rinaldi; and his grandparents, Elsie Rinaldi and Merv and Jean Forster, all of Spokane.

Lula Brundage Spokane
Memorial service for Lula A. Brundage, 91, will be at 2 p.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.
Mrs. Brundage, who died Saturday, was born in Pleasant Lake, N.D.
In 1937, she married Norris Brundage and in 1947 they moved to Darby, Mont. In 1955 they moved to St. Regis, Mont., and to Oldtown, Idaho, in 1963. Mrs. Brundage had lived in Spokane for the past 14 months due to poor health.
She worked at the Pantry Cafe during the 1960s and 1970s.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors.
Her husband, Norris, died in 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Clara Donder of Spokane and Florence Drafall of Warrenton, Ore.; one son, Louis Brundage of Okanogan, Wash.; two sisters, Alma Elliott of Lewiston and Vera Hill of Portland; one brother, Kenneth Moen of Seattle; five grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Carrie Hulbert Raymond, Wash.
Graveside service for Carrie M. Hulbert, 97, a former longtime Spokane resident, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Fairmount Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wesley Home Health Center, Wesley Gardens in Des Moines, Wash. Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hulbert, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday at Willapa Harbor Care Center in Raymond, where she had lived for the past two years.
She had lived in Spokane for 78 years and was a clerical worker for the Air Force.
After she retired, she moved to Des Moines, where she lived for six years.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Pavloff of Maui, Hawaii; one son, Lewis Curtis of Portland; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Evelyn Sasser Spokane
Memorial service for Evelyn Joan Sasser, 57, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
Mrs. Sasser, who was born in Toledo, Ore., died Thursday.
She was a production manager for Vari-Tronics for almost 30 years and had lived in Spokane for 33 years.
Mrs. Sasser is survived by one son, Wade Sasser of Spokane; one sister, Rose Esbenshade of Siletz, Ore.; and two brothers, Harold Folmsbee of Albany, Ore., and Carl Folmsbee of West Linn, Ore.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Medical Center Cancer Center.
Ross Gumm Spokane
Memorial service for Ross W. Gumm, 79, was Monday at Millwood Presbyterian Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gumm, who died last Wednesday, was born in Colville, Wash.
He graduated from John Rogers High School.
Mr. Gumm worked for Kaiser Aluminum and retired in 1971 after 25 years with the company. He was also a former partner in Western Mobile Homes.
Mr. Gumm was a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Loeta; two daughters, Judith Eigell and Daphne Pulliam, both of Spokane; three sons, Chuck Gumm of Seattle, Wayne Gumm of Post Falls and Greg Gumm of Spokane; two sisters, Lucille McLaughlin of Spokane and Velda Oye of San Antonio, Texas; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Millwood Presbyterian Church.
Harvey Mundell Spokane
Graveside service with burial of the ashes for Harvey A. Mundell, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pines Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South, is in charge of cremation.
Born in Yuma Pine, Ore., Mr. Mundell died April 4.
He had lived in Spokane for 50 years and was a construction laborer.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Mundell; two sons, Stanley and Earl Mundell, both of Spokane; one daughter, Hilda Jett of Medical Lake; one sister, Frances Henson of Sprague, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Norine Towle Chewelah, Wash.
Memorial service for Norine Joyce Towle, 66, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah.
Mrs. Towle, who died Sunday, was born in Stevensville, Mont.
She graduated from the University of Montana and received a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan.
She had worked in Montana as a social worker and at the University of Puget Sound.
In Chewelah, she was co-owner of the Porcelain Bowl gift shop. She also served in various social service positions, including with the Stevens County Counseling Service. She was also part owner of two recovery houses in Spokane.
Mrs. Towle was a member of the Chewelah City Planning Commission and the Chewelah Federated Women’s Club.
Her husband, Prescott Towle, died in 1955.
Survivors include two daughters, Stacy Jovick of Livingston, Mont., and Desera Towle of Helena; her mother and stepfather, Maidie and Jinks Stordeur of Stevensville, and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bannack Historical Museum in Dillon, Mont., or to the Stevensville Museum.
Vennette Smick Medical Lake
Graveside service for Vennette Belle Smick, 77, was Tuesday at Maccabee Cemetery in Sprague, Wash.
Mrs. Smick, who died Saturday, was born in Pomeroy, Wash., and had lived in Medical Lake since 1984.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Harry Smick, died in 1984.
She was a member of the Cheney Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She is survived by one sister, Nellie Clayton of East Wenatchee, Wash.
Mildred Parker Pullman
Private burial will be held for Mildred Parker, 93, at Coleman Cemetery, north of Pullman. Memorial service was Thursday at Palouse Hills Care Center in Pullman.
Miss Parker, who was born in Palouse, Wash., died April 1.
She graduated from Palouse High School and worked as a cook at Washington State University.
She is survived by one sister, Melba Parker of Pullman.
Karl Peterson Addy, Wash.
Memorial service for Karl Evald Peterson, 58, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Life Christian Center in Addy. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Peterson, who was born in Chewelah, died April 2.
He was a longtime rural Addy resident and farmed for 40 years.
He operated a dairy for 17 years. In 1973 he and his wife, Karen, sold the dairy cattle and became registered black Angus cattle breeders.
Mr. Peterson was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chewelah. He had served on the Stevens County Cattlemen’s board of directors and was on the county ag-advisory board.
He served on the County Planning Commission and was a board member of Merry Glen School in Spokane.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years; two daughters, Kellie and Karmin Peterson, both of Spokane; one son, Kris Peterson of Pullman; his mother, Elsie Peterson of Addy; one sister, Valdine Collinge of Wenatchee; and one grandson.
