Man Draws Longer Term For Child Rape
An Ione, Wash., man received an extra-long sentence this week after losing a bid to withdraw his guilty plea to second-degree child rape.
John Raynor, 56, was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for raping a female relative who is now 13 years old.
Pend Oreille County Superior Court Judge Fred Stewart exceeded the standard sentence of five to seven years because the abuse occurred repeatedly over five years, starting when the girl was 8.
Raynor claimed Assistant Public Defender Tim Trageser coerced him into a false confession. But Deputy Prosecutor Tony Koures noted that Raynor admitted the crime to two doctors and a probation officer as well as in court.
Koures said Raynor didn’t ask to change his plea until the doctors rejected him for a sex-offender treatment program that would have limited his sentence to six months.
