Expedition To Clean Up Mt. Everest

Compiled From Wire Services

China is sending an expedition to collect garbage on Mount Everest.

The 50-member team of mountaineers, scientists and reporters hopes to arrive at the base camp of the world’s tallest mountain on June 5, World Environment Day, the official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday.

The team plans to stay four days.

Since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay scaled Everest’s 29,000-foot summit in 1953, hundreds of climbers attempting to follow in their footsteps have left behind tons of garbage en route.
