Magazines Will Cost You

Flipping though the pages of your favorite magazine has gotten more expensive, and should continue to do so.

In a survey released Monday, 37 percent of magazine circulation directors questioned said they had raised newsstand prices last year, 30 percent raised basic subscription prices and 28 percent raised gift subscription prices.

About the same number plan to increase prices this year, according to the semiannual survey by Vos, Gruppo & Capell The 1995 rate was about double that of 1994 increases.

“The paper and postage increases of the recent past, combined with uncertain advertising revenues, have forced magazines to pass on major price increases to the consumers,” Dan Capell, managing director, said in a statement.
