Rams See The Lyght
The Rams say they have taken advantage of a technicality to match Jacksonville’s offer to Todd Lyght.
Jacksonville reportedly offered Lyght $4 million guaranteed this season and an overall contract of more than $10.5 million. The Rams had trouble squeezing the $4 million into their 1996 salary cap.
But the Jaguars’ contract called for $1.7 million in the second year, meaning $2.3 million of the first year’s salary can be considered a signing bonus.
NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue played the role of lobbyist as he walked the halls of the Capitol to drum up support for a plan aimed at keeping the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay.
Tagliabue virtually promised Tampa Bay would host the Super Bowl in January 2000 if Hillsborough County voters get the chance and approve a tax agreement to help finance a new $168 million stadium.
