Anglers Seeking Spiny-Rays Will Need Stamp

Thu., April 18, 1996

Beginning in January, anglers who fish for walleyes, bass, catfish and other spiny-ray fish in Washington will be required to have a $5 warmwater gamefish stamp in addition to their general fishing license.

The new requirement was approved by the 1996 Washington Legislature after five years of lobbying by warmwater fishing activists.

“We’ve needed this for a long time to earmark money for warmwater fish enhancement,” said Rod Meseberg of Othello, an active supporter.
