Goodwill Presents Awards For Workers And Stores
Barbara Williams, a sales associate in the downtown Goodwill store has been named Employee of the Year by Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest.
Other finalists for the top award were Mike Bennett, from the downtown Spokane store, and Troy Zumwalt, from the Lewiston store.
Others honored during the recent awards banquet: Pullman Goodwill Store, managed by Jacqueline McCabe, was named Store of the Year.
Frank Medina, transportation assistant at the Spokane production plant, received the Floyd Bowers Memorial Award for outstanding performance, and Jim Hose, director of rehabilitation services, was awarded the Andre-Romberg Award of Excellence.
Goodwill Employer of the Year went to Howe General Contracting, of Sandpoint. Jim Breeden, owner of Empire Floral and Nursery, was named the Business Contributor of the Year; Mary Mason, Volunteer of the Year; Erik Weseman, Empire Floral Graduate of the Year; and Christa McDonald, sales manager for KREM-TV, and KREM-TV, received the Media Award.
Marcea Mandsager, Goodwill board chairwoman, was cited as the Outstanding Board Member.
Gonzaga University recently promoted the following faculty members, effective Sept. 1, 1996:
From associate professor to professor: Clarence “Bud” Barnes, business administration; Betsy Downey, history; Ed Schaefer, music; Joanne Smieja, chemistry; and Kathie Yerion, math/computer science.
From assistant professor to associate professor: Gabriella Brooke, modern languages; David Calhoun, philosophy; Paul DePalma, math/computer science; Thomas Jeannot, philosophy; Dan McCann, physical education; Sr. Joy Milos,C.S.J., religious studies; Nancy Staub, biology; June Stewart, law library; and Brian Steverson, philosophy.
Christy Fechner, a 1992 graduate of Mead High School, has earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brigham Young University.
Fechner is a member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society for undergraduate psychology students. She plans to enter graduate school at Washington State University in the fall.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony L. Fechner, Spokane.
