Obituaries

Dayne Nix Spokane

Memorial service for Dayne J. Nix, 75, is set for 6 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church. A potluck reception will follow. Inurnment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nix, who was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, died Friday.

He attended Kinman Business University in Spokane and worked as a bursar for Whitworth College from 1947 to 1990. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, treasurer for Carriage Square Association and a volunteer at Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, Meals on Wheels and City Gate.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Nix, in 1983.

Survivors include two brothers, William Nix of Hagerman, Idaho, and Wayne Nix of Donnelly, Idaho.

Herb Miller Greenacres

Visitation for Herb G. Miller, 85, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Miller, who died Friday, was born in Puyallup, Wash.

He served as an ambulance driver for an Army tank battalion on Okinawa and in Korea. He moved to Spokane in 1954 from the Seattle area and worked at the Northwest Magnesite plant in Chewelah, Wash., and Clarke Equipment (formerly Brown Trailer) until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine; two daughters, Sherri Adams of Spokane and Cindy Koerper of Mead; two sisters, Edith Sabo of Loon Lake, Wash., and Marjorie Wilcox of Deer Lake, Wash.; one brother, Harold Miller of Valley, Wash.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Eugenie Blaisdell Spokane

Private family service for Eugenie Blaisdell, 82, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blaisdell, who was born in Seattle, died March 24.

She resided both in Spokane and Port Orchard, Wash.

She and her husband manufactured pottery in Port Orchard for nearly 40 years. Their art was inspired by the coastal Indians.

The last order they shipped was to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Hinton; one daughter, Joanne Herrick of Deer Park; three granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.

Alice O’Riley Post Falls

Service for Alice Elizabeth O’Riley, 61, will be today at 1 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery’s Riverview Section in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. O’Riley, who was born in Arkansas, died Sunday.

She attended schools in St. Maries, later moving to the Post Falls area.

She was a member of the Living Hope Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. O’Riley was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Glen, in 1992. Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Spink of Montana, Patti Singer of Post Falls and Paula Broeckel of Redmond, Wash.; her mother, Ada Linn of St. Maries; one brother, Bill Linn of St. Maries; and one sister, Lois O’Riley of Post Falls.

Richard Grove Bayview, Idaho

A celebration of life for Richard J. Grove, 59, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Locust Grove in Farragut State Park near Bayview. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Grove, who was born in New York, died Friday. He grew up in New Jersey, later joining the Navy.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1978 and moved to Bayview a year later, where he owned the Bayview Mercantile.

He retired from the U.S. Postal service in 1991 after 33 years.

Survivors include his wife Audrey; a son, Rick of Post Falls; a daughter, Dawna Tucker of Hayden, Idaho; an adopted son, Blazo Mitasev of Oregon; two brothers, Robert Grove of New Jersey and John Pasteur of Hayden; and eight grandchildren.

Signa Herron Spokane

Service was held Monday for Signa M. Herron, 84, at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park. Mrs. Herron, who died Thursday, was born in Moscow, Idaho.

She was a resident of Spokane for more than 50 years and was a member of Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She and her husband owned and operated the Bel-Air Motel in Spokane for 10 years.

Her husband of 53 years, Robert R. Herron, died in 1995.

Mrs. Herron is survived by one son, Jerry Herron of Spokane; and one sister, Hilda Schmidt of Spokane.

Memorials may be made to the Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church Roof Fund.

Evelyn Graff Coeur d’Alene

Service for Evelyn M. Graff, 79, will be held later. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Graff, who was born in Norway, died Saturday.

She immigrated to America in 1921 and had lived in Rhode Island as a homemaker. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1992.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Richard Ebbitt and George Graff. Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Nelson of Coeur d’Alene and Diane Booth of Virginia; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lois Henry Kellogg

Memorial service for Lois L. Henry, 80, will be today at 2 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Kellogg. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Henry, who was born in Minnesota, died Wednesday.

She grew up in Minnesota, then lived in Texas before moving to Kellogg in 1942.

Mrs. Henry had worked as a bookkeeper for the Doctor’s Clinic in Kellogg and was a member of the Pythian Sisters, the Rebekkah Lodge and the American Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Sidney. Survivors include one son, Rick Henry of Wisconsin; one daughter, Sharon Thompson of California; one brother, Hilmer Lind of Minnesota; two sisters, Esther Wallin and Charlotte Bakken, both of Minnesota; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Sister Mary Ignatius Ducharme, S.P. Spokane

Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Sister Mary Ignatius Ducharme, 108, at 10 a.m. today, at the Mount St. Joseph Convent Chapel. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Sister Ducharme a native of St. Elizabeth, Quebec, died Sunday after 85 years as a Sister of Providence.

She graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Quebec and attended the Chicago Nursing Institute, where she received her licensed practical nurse diploma.

Sister Ducharme also attended Seattle College and earned a hospital administration certificate. She attended the University of Montana, receiving a certificate to teach high school sewing.

In 1961 she was appointed provincial councilor for the province and assistant provincial superior in 1962. In 1965 she continued in this role and was superior/ administrator of Mount St. Joseph.

She retired from this position at age 81.

She is survived by two nieces, Sister Pauline LaPorte, S.P., of Joliette, Quebec, and Pauline Coffey of Lowell, Mass.; and one nephew, the Rev. Lionel Quelette of Marlboro, Mass.

Karen Ayres Spokane

No service will be held for Karen L. Ayres, 61, at her request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ayres, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday. She was employed by the Spokane Chapter of the American Red Cross and St. Luke’s Medical Center as a social worker.

Recently she served as a volunteer with the Eastern Washington Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.

She is survived by one daughter, Andrea Ayres of Green Bay, Va.; one son, Richard Ayres III of Spokane; one brother, Arthur Lien of Tekoa, Wash.; two granddaughters and one step-grandson.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Spokane Chapter of the American Red Cross or to the Eastern Washington Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.

Hazel Tryon Spokane

Service for Hazel J. Tryon, 106, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Tryon, a 74-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She was born in Coulee, Washington Territory, in 1889, and was a homemaker.

She attend school in Wilbur, Wash., and played on the basketball team. She married Bert Partridge in 1911 and moved to Spokane in 1922 after his death.

She married Arthur Tryon in 1926. He died in 1961.

Mrs. Tryon is survived by two daughters, Gladys Wayerski and Dorothy Hayes, both of Spokane; two sons, Bob Partridge of Penn Valley, Calif., and Don Partridge of Mukilteo, Wash.; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Olga Kempston Chattaroy

Memorial Service for Olga R. Kempston, 87 will be held at 2 p.m. today at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Kempston, who died Friday, was born in Chicago.

She was a homemaker and a member of Chattaroy Community Church.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joe; two daughters, Patricia Larsen and Judith Kempston, both of Spokane; two sons, Joseph Kempston of Monterey, Calif., and Stephen Kempston of Bellingham; two sisters, Evelyn Finzel of Bellevue, Wash., and Barbara Wegener of Branford, Conn.; one brother, Carl Miller of Kaneohe, Hawaii; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
