Bardot’s Attack On Muslims Creates Stir

Anti-racism groups are slamming actress Brigitte Bardot for her criticism of Muslims for slaughtering sheep.

Bardot, an animal-rights activist, assailed the annual ritual in an editorial published Friday in the conservative newspaper Le Figaro.

She took her complaint one step further by saying France, “my homeland, my earth, is again invaded, with the blessing of successive governments, by an overpopulation of foreigners, notably Muslim.”

Many of France’s 3 million Muslims participate in the annual Islamic celebration this month known as Aid el-Kebir, which commemorates Abraham’s ritual sheep sacrifice.

The Movement Against Racism and for Friendship Between Peoples said it was investigating taking legal action against Bardot for writing “a provocation of racial hatred.”

The environmentalist Greens party said it was “profoundly shocked” by the editorial.

In Egypt, an opposition newspaper ran a story Saturday headlined: “The whore of French cinema launches a dirty attack against Islam.”
