Degerness Honored By Society
Ken Degerness, a longtime public relations and advertising professional, was awarded the Award of Excellence by the Spokane Chapter of Public Relations Society.
Degerness, of Degerness and Associates, is a graduate of Whitworth College and has been in public relations for 40 years.
He has been a member of PRSA since 1970 and was a charter member of the Spokane Chapter. During his 22-year association with the Spokane Chapter, he has served as president, vice president, accredited chairman, and board member.
Degerness is a lifetime member of the Spokane Advertising Federation (SAF). In 1971 he was selected as SAF’s Outstanding Man of the Year and is one of only three recipients of the Advertising Silver Medal in the SAF’s 95-year history.
Third Class Petty Officer Matthew Zuchetto, Spokane, received the Navy Achievement Medal for professional achievement while deployed to the Western Pacific Ocean and Arabian Gulf. A graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Zuchetto.
The U.S. Achievement Academy announced that Bryn Boorman has been recognized for academic achievement as a U.S. National Honor Roll award winner.
Boorman, a sophomore at Valley Christian, will appear in the U.S. Achievement Academy Official Yearbook. She is the daughter of Jill and Darrell Boorman.
Regina Cutler has graduated with honors from the University of Chicago, majoring in both political science and philosophy. She received departmental honors from the political science faculty based on the submission of her baccalaureate paper.
Cutler was on the Dean’s List for four years and in 1995 received a Richter Grant for an internship at Illinois Sen. Paul Simon’s Washington, D.C., office. She wrote for and was news editor of the University of Chicago student newspaper, The Maroon. She was also a reporter and section editor for the Free Press, a new independent Chicago publication.
A 1992 graduate of Ferris High School, she is the daughter of Mary and Fred Cutler of Spokane.
Army Sgt. Orley Smith has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal. A section sergeant at Fort Knox, Radcliff, Ky., he is a 1984 graduate of Rogers High School.
Ellen Terry has received a master of arts degree in museum studies from the University of Washington. She is employed as a museum education curator at the Washington State Historical Museum in Tacoma.
A former museum assistant for the Cheney Cowles Museum, she is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and served as an intern with the Smithsonian Institute’s Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York.
