Dorothy Jacobson Spokane

Memorial service for Dorothy Leah Jacobson, 81, will be at 2 p.m. at Audubon Park United Methodist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jacobson, who was born in Davenport, Wash., died Sunday.

She graduated from Edwall (Wash.) High School.

She lived in Edwall for more than 60 years and lived in Spokane County for 19 years.

She was a member of Audubon Park Methodist Church and the Washington State Grange.

Two husbands preceded her in death, Gene Monk and Kenneth Jacobson.

She is survived by a son, Wilson Monk of Edwall; three daughters, Sandra Beck of Spokane, Susan Sloan of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Bonnie Chandler-Warren of Renton, Wash.; three stepchildren; six sisters, Marian Strunk of Bothell, Wash., Rhoda Williams and Lois Evanoff, both of Spokane, Esther Burns of Seattle, Ruth Duenwald of Newport, Wash., and Meryl Pruitt of Tacoma; 16 grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Audubon Park United Methodist Church.

Paul Kensler Medical Lake

Graveside service for Paul C. Kensler, 80, is set for 2 p.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kensler, a longtime Medical Lake resident, died Tuesday.

He was born in Lost Nation, Iowa.

From 1937 to 1967, he served in the Army and then the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force as a master sergeant.

He graduated from Spokane Community College with a degree in culinary arts in 1965 and worked as a baker at Lakeland Village until 1969.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Fay Kensler; two stepsons, Clair McKie of Monroe, Wash., and Howard McKie of Raymond, Wash.; a brother, Pierce Kensler of Rogers, Ark.; two sisters, Anita Obenland of Rogers and Geneva Gates of Sun City, Ariz.; four stepgrandchildren, 21 stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Richard Wood Moses Lake

Service for Richard L. Wood, 78, is set for noon today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. There will be private burial at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Wood, who died Saturday, was born in Spokane. He moved to Moses Lake three years ago.

He graduated from Rogers High School and was an apprentice with General Paint and Glass, which became Empire Glass.

In the mid-1960s he went to work for Towne Glass. He became a partner at Towne, and he retired in the mid-1980s.

He and Mable Towne were co-owners of M & D Co., which created rock jewelry.

He is survived by a son, Charles Wood of Oldtown, Idaho; his former wife, Geraldine Wood of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Phillip Waterbury Spokane

No service will be held for Phillip O. Waterbury, 49. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Waterbury, who died Saturday, was born in Medina, N.Y.

He was a 23-year Spokane resident, and worked for Northwest Bedding.

He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474.

He is survived by his mother, Eileen Waterbury, and a sister, Valerie, both of Puyallup, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Francis Fager Spokane

Service for Francis Lee Fager, 15, is set for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Fager drowned Sunday in Pearrygin Lake in Okanogan County.

He was born in Spokane and was a student at Rogers High School, where he was a wrestler.

He was a member of Mountain View Assembly of God youth group and the Royal Rangers, in which he was also a Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship member.

He is survived by his parents, William and Juanita Fager of Spokane; two sisters, Brigit McBride of Elk, Wash., and Michelle Fager at home; his grandparents, Jim and Bettie Smith of Sacramento, Calif., Greg Gregory of West Jordan, Utah, and Grace Caldwell of Spokane.

Melvin Brandvold Post Falls

Memorial service for Melvin Raymond Brandvold, 47, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Brandvold, who was born in Kalispell, Mont., died Monday.

He had worked as a buyer and seller for Panhandle Recycling, was a machinist for Posness & Warren and an employee of Sportsman Loan.

Survivors include his wife, Kim; five daughters, Denise, Roxanne and Susan Brandvold, all at home, Shelly Brandvold of California, and Naomi Pepe of Moscow; mother, Lucille Brandvold of Spokane; brother, Mervin Brandvold of Spokane; two sisters, Lorna Cargil of Post Falls, and Ruth Brown of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Marie Ewy Santa Cruz, Calif.

Memorial service for Marie Julia Ewy, 78, was Wednesday at Norman’s Family Chapel in Soquel, Calif. Private burial will be at a later date at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Mrs. Ewy died Monday at a convalescent center in Capitola, Calif.

She was born in Winona, Minn.

She worked as a registered nurse and lived in Spokane from 1984 until she moved to Santa Cruz in 1994.

Her husband, Lowell Ewy, died in 1972.

She is survived by two daughters, Michele Brady of South Dakota and Debbie Brose of Santa Cruz; a brother, John Morrisey of Utah; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Lauren Krick Spokane

Graveside service for Lauren H. Krick, 81, is set for 10 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Krick, who died Sunday, was born in Blaine, Wash.

He moved to Spokane in 1915 with his parents.

He graduated from North Central High School and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Following the war, he worked for Berliners and in 1953 went to work for Colyear Motor Sales, which later became Genuine Auto Parts NAPA. He retired in 1979.

His wife, Juanita, died in 1978.

He is survived by a son, Gary Krick of Spokane; and a sister, Marjorie.

Mary Pearl Symbol Spokane

Private service for Mary Pearl Symbol, 85, will be held. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Symbol, who died Saturday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

She had worked as a retail clerk and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral and Eagles Lodge No. 2.

She is survived by two brothers, Paul Symbol of Seattle and Kenneth Symbol of Spokane; and a sister, Jessie Rosauer of Spokane.

Herbert Bensel Bellingham

Memorial service for Herbert S. “Herb” Bensel, 74, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Bensel, who died last Friday at home, was born near Marshall, Wash.

He graduated from North Central High School and served in the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He worked at Kaiser Aluminum in Mead as a chemist for 25 years. He participated in the golf and bowling teams at Kaiser.

He is survived by two sons, Kene Bensel of Bellingham and Phillip Bensel of Garland, Texas; two sisters, Louise Farrow of Spokane and Nyra Spencer of Post Falls; three brothers, Frank Bensel of Spokane, Rudy Bensel of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Paul Bensel of Savannah, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Loraine Barto Spokane

No service will be held for Loraine J. Barto, 67. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Barto, who was born in Rathdrum, Idaho, died July 25.

She graduated from Central Valley High School and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Larry Barto; a daughter, Shari Graham of Spokane; two sons, Michael Baker of Bellevue, Wash., and Ron Barto of Spokane; a brother, Melvin Michaels of Seattle; two sisters, Marge Peoples of Leavenworth, Wash., and Kay Jarman of Bend, Ore.; and numerous grandchildren.

Joan Lundin Spokane

Memorial service for Joan Darlene Lundin, 62, will be today at 11 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Inurnment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lundin, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

She was a lifelong resident of Spokane and graduated from North Central High School in 1952.

She had worked as an Avon representative and was a sales clerk for J.C. Penney’s in the Shadle Park Center.

Mrs. Lundin was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, earlier this year.

Survivors include three children, Darlene Stuart of Port Orchard, Wash., and Maria Folden and Jerry Lundin, both of Reno, Nev.; one brother, Duane Hickey of Spokane; and two grandchildren

Fredrick Norris Spokane

Memorial service for Fredrick Eugene Norris, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435.

Mr. Norris, a longtime Spokane resident, died July 24 at the Seattle Veterans Affairs Hospital.

He was born in San Jose, Calif.

He served in the Navy aboard the USS Noble. His ship helped evacuate Allied prisoners of war from Korea.

After the war, he lived in Spokane and California and settled in Spokane in 1967.

He had three wives: Helen (Cook) Pearce of Burlington, Ontario, Margie (Bolding) Pickett of Quartzite, Ariz., and Nadine Norris of Spokane, whom he married in 1978.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Operating Engineers Union.

He worked for Inland Asphalt in Spokane for 36 years.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, George Norris of Gilroy, Calif., Stephen Norris of Spokane and Kenneth Norris of Portland; two stepsons, Albert Aahl of Spokane and Derry Aahl of Pennsylvania; three daughters; Caroline “Toni” Battin, Marilyn Bledsoe and Jackie Morris, all of Spokane; two stepdaughters, Michelle Koontz and Wendy Aahl, both of Spokane; a sister, Dorothy Mehan of Rogue River, Ore.; and numerous grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
