Britannica Weighs Selling Subsidiary
Encyclopaedia Britannica Inc. said Friday it is considering selling its subsidiary that develops and markets teaching aid products for schools.
“Encyclopaedia Britannica Educational Corp. is a highly respected company in its field with excellent prospects, but it is not a perfect fit with its parent company’s new strategic direction,” said William J. Bowe, EBEC’s president and a vice president with the parent company.
EBEC markets a series of products to teach elementary and high school students science, math, geography and history.
EBEC’s parent publishes an encyclopedia in 32-volume books, Britannica CD and Britannica Online on the Internet.
