John Paxson Honored For Graphic Design Work
John Paxson, lead graphic designer with Eastern Washington University Office of Communication Services, received the 1996 Design Competition Award of Excellence from the University and College Designers Association.
Paxson won in the Recruitment Poster Category for his EWU Summer Session poster, which will be on display at the UCDA annual conference in Santa Fe, N.M.
Before joining EWU last year, Paxson was the lead graphic designer at the Safeco corporate offices in Seattle.
Terrance R. Brown, chief executive officer of Community Colleges of Spokane, has been elected president of the Washington Association of Community and Technical College Presidents. The board is composed of presidents from the state’s 33 community and technical colleges.
John Keyes, Spokane, recently received an arts and sciences degree from Loyola University in New Orleans.
Dianne White, Spokane, received the Bowl of Hygeia Award from Weyth-Ayerst Laboratories for outstanding community service by a pharmacist. White and her husband, Kirby, own Platter’s Pharmacy.
Dianne White was a member of the Spokane County Board of Freeholders and head of the public policy council for the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce. She has served on the pharmacists association’s board of managers and its five-year plan committee and chaired the public relations committee.
Pamela Gigliotti, daughter of Steve and Carolyn Gigliotti, Davenport, Wash., was named a First Group Scholar and enrolled on the Dean’s List at Smith College, Northampton, Mass. Gigliotti, a graduate of Davenport High School, is a government major at Smith.
R. Steven Richmond II, a 1993 graduate of Central Valley High School, was named to the President’s Honor Roll and the College of Engineering Dean’s Honor Roll at the University of Oklahoma.
He was elected to Tau Beta Pi, national engineering honor society, and named outstanding pledge to Eta Kappa Nu, national electrical engineering honor society.
Richmond, son of Steve and Beverly Richmond, Veradale, also received the Farrar Undergraduate Scholarship.
Two Inland Northwest residents were winners at the Midsummer Quilt Gala of the Great Pacific Northwest Quilt Show in Seattle:
Cheri Moland, Veradale, received the Best Art Award, and Margie Karavitis, Spokane, received the Best Traditional Award and third place in Traditional Pieced Quilts.
Jennifer Kuhlmann, a senior at Shadle Park High School, was selected to represent Washington state at the National Youth Science Camp this summer in Bartow, W.V. Kuhlmann, a valedictorian and Girl’s State participant, joined two delegates from every state and Japan in the four-week program.
