Author Arrested For Anti-Jewish Article
The author of an article calling Jews “vampires” and blaming them for Georgia’s woes was arrested Thursday and charged with inciting ethnic hatred.
Givi Alaznispireli is also editor of the paper, a tiny weekly called “Noi,” the Georgian name for Noah. He is the only writer at the paper, which has a circulation of 500.
His story accused Jews of prospering at the expense of Georgians, said Valery Iosava, deputy chief prosecutor in Tbilisi.
Iosava said it was the first time anyone had been charged under the law, which provides for a maximum punishment of three years in prison.
