County’s Recycling At All Time High

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane County’s trash recycling rate reached a new high of 42 percent of all garbage generated last year, up from 40 percent in 1994.

That’s much higher than the national recycling average of 24 percent, according to Spokane Regional Solid Waste System officials.

“We are very pleased,” said Jessie Lang, Spokane’e waste reduction and recycling coordinator.

Last year, 499,378 tons of trash were generated in the city and county, with 291,461 tons burned in the garbage incinerator or hauled to a regional landfill in Klickitat County. A total 207,917 tons were recycled.

Copies of the recycling report can be obtained from the Spokane Regional Solid Waste System, 808 West Spokane Falls Blvd., Spokane 99201. A copy can also be requested by calling the Recycling Hotline, 747-0242. , DataTimes
